The Facebook Open Stream API and the End of Days

Facebook, possibly in reaction to Twitter’s heavenly rise, has opened their stream to developers. LINK This stream is considered the most valuable part of the FB ‘experience’ – so why should they open it up?

Because Craigslist.org.  Craigslist.org is the root of the “Web 2.0″ user added experience, and since they are (mostly) free – everyone else has to to do it too. Because, perhaps learning a lesson from the music industry and Itunes, if you lock it up and/or it cost more then 1.19 – people aren’t going to A) pay for it and/or B) use it.

So they had to open it up. It was coming. I am sure they were just waiting to see it they could get away with not letting the stream out, but with Twitter’s 3 month upward trend of 408%… you just can’t ignore that!

So what does it mean?

You know your favorite app to use Twitter? There will be one for FB next week. Facestreamer.com?  Facedeck? It’s all around the corner.

The smart money is on the one who can marry the two in a nice seamless fashion. Like TwitFaceDeck.com (which I am registering right now.) Whoever can get the essence of the two streams, tie in all that people find needful, will get a great pile of users.

And if we know one thing about Twitter it’s this. Get the users first. Monetize them later.

SEO Jesus does have plans to look into the API – but no promises. He has his hands full helping buisnesses stay in and improve their business.

But TwitFaceSpaceFreindDeck.com – that one could be a real winner. And it’s coming. Maybe not from me – but it’s coming.
